6 Days Machame Route

Overview

The 6 days Machame route variation is a difficult route. In particular, day four combined with day five makes for a very hard schedule. Day four is a full day of hiking from Barranco to Barafu camp. Then after dinner and a partial night’s sleep, the very long and strenuous summit day begins around mid-night. The six day Machame route requires hours of demanding walking, at extremely high elevation, with only 4 – 5 hours of sleep.

Although, the Machame route is one of the best choice because of its acclimatization profile, Machame 6 needs a climber who is experienced and wanting hiking challenges experience. If you are not experienced and have only 6 days,we recommend Rongai route,6 days. Compared to other six day routes, the Machame route exposes the climber to higher elevations quicker (day 3) which kickstarts the body`s adaptation to altitude.

While the six day itinerary is very possible,it is very benefitable to choose the 7 day itinerary climb because of having one more extra day for acclimatization and resting before the summit day.Doing this will maximize your chance of reaching the top.

However, this route requires that a person be in good shape to be able to tackle the challenging elevation gains and losses.
